A rather fun question... None of these answers are mine, I leaned to the third answer myself, even though it saddens me to acknowledge a limit on our universe ~~. So I'm voting the last. |

I think this is just too high for our imagination, but apart from that possible in a way we can't understand it. ;d It's just like thinking of a 4 th dimension... our human minds are just too poor to understand that.

And what about a reflection of the force to another direction? Or doesn't that fit with the definition of an unstoppable force?

Borderline. Unsure if the definition of "unstoppable" covers diverting the force or not, but let's assume the object is a plain surface and the force hits it at a 90 degree angle, excluding the possibility of diverting the force. |

Quote (W4ng) 4th dimension? Maybe you wanted to say 5th...4th is time. ok 4 th dimension is spacetime, ur right, because with time we can explain things we can't understand with the dimension of space or sth like that :S ok, I meant the 5th then d:

Quote (Tinkiwinki) Everything explodes! Tinki ur a genius! thats almost liek the 3rd possibility, only vice versa: BECAUSE it cannot exist by definition, everything around explodes and will not longer exist, even the object and the force!

Personal I find that implementing other dimensions is a bit cheap ... Lets look at the facts. An immovable object doesn't exist and about an unstoppable force we can discuss ... So this is a theoretical (and philosophical?) question. For me, the 3th looks the most likely

30 points to Keppie. This is indeed a question often posed at the introduction class of philosophical college and university classes. And I did not even think of redirecting the force myself, it'd satisfy both conditions. And lastly, if a force is immovable, there cannot be a force in the same continuum to move it. Equally true is the fact that a force that cannot be stopped, can be stopped by an object. So the third option, from a philosiphical point of view, does seem right. I'd simulate it, but by making this problem virtual, we'd have to define the virtual world and would already know the outcome. ~~ |

What happens if an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? I think this situation can't exist: an object can't be immovable. Yes, he can be "immovale" opposite a force which isn't very important... But, if an unstoppable force (not very important or important) meets continualy an object, the immovability of the object isnt' important because he must move or be uneven after a long time.

whatever... philosophy teachers (and those who would like to be some) indeed always love to fake their students with such things one time our ethics-teacher gave us a speech which has been recorded in a philosophical's circle (it was sth about the relations of a cockroach and the universe i think) this sounded a bit confusing, so everybody tried to justify the argumentation of the speaker just to get fooled in the end by our teacher who explained us that this was made by a comedian who wanted to joke about this so called philosophical's circles by holding a speech about bullshit but every1 in our class believed it was serious :S
